National Hummingbird day

When it is National Hummingbird Day there is only one thing to do:  hummmmmm for hummingbirds!  We learned all about this fairy-like feather ball.

We pretended we were hummingbirds and saw how much work it is to drink nectar.  check us out trying to pull nectar out of a flower using a straw tongue!

We read and reenacted a  fun story by Keith Baker called Little Green.  A little green hummingbird is flying through a sunny garden, leaving a path for sharp eyes to follow. In the story a young artist is watching—and painting what he sees; so we too focused our attention on the flight of the little hummingbird and with chalk on construction paper traced along with the story.

At the end of the class we turned a paper towel roll into a hum, humhumming hummingbird kazoo! HUMMMMMMMMMMM!,
