Even the crabs are not crabby here at Oatland Island. The theme was salt marshes and we learned up close and personal about some of the little creatures found in a marsh. We hummed to periwinkle snails to get them to come out and play, then we read a fun story about Snippet the early riser by Bethanie Deeney Murguia. It is a beautifully illustrated book and a great story about a little snail that wakes up way before anyone else in his family and desperately wants someone to play with.
Then we made our fiddler crab claw puppets, our crab antennae hats and role played those cute little fiddler crabs that we see fiddling away saying ” hello, bonjour, hola, konichiwa!” I wish you could see the googly eyes on the top of the antennae. Too cute!
