Bird Feeder Buffet

We had a good time on this cold wintry morn learning about bird beak design.  The kids had fun picking up bird seed with different sized tweezers (make believe bird beaks) and the woodpeckers were busy pulling grubs out of the dead trees with their chisel shaped beaks.

It is amazing how entertained they are with a task as simple as pulling string out of a can with tweezers.
Just poke a bunch of holes, fill it with string and let those woodpeckers at it.

We read one of my favorite rhyming stories by Joanne Oppenheim and Barbara Reid. It is kind of a rap…

Have You Seen Birds?

At the end we took a stroll to the windows and watched birds at the feeder with our binoculars:

We made homemade bird feeders with toilet paper rolls, peanut butter and bird seed.

Chicka dee dee dee! We learned all about these little guys today.

I believe I am watching budding bird watchers grow here at Oatland Island. It is fabulous!
